Avoiding Stereotypes in Horror

Avoiding Stereotypes in Horror

1-part workshop

Saturday, March 22, 12 noon-2 pm

In this workshop, we’ll analyze harmful stereotypes found in horror and how they too often alienate marginalized communities, especially people of color, disabled people, 2SLGBTQ+ people, women, and working-class people. We’ll learn how avoiding harmful stereotypes improves your writing, not only through preventing harm but also by creating a story that a broader and more diverse audience can connect to. Join the CWC to learn to identify these stereotypes, discuss their impact, and brainstorm ways to craft horror that terrifies and challenges without reinforcing systemic marginalization.

Cost: $15. Registration is required.
