Environmental Writing: Plays, Cartoons, and More with Stand-Up Economist Yoram Bauman

Environmental Writing: Plays, Cartoons, and More with Stand-Up Economist Yoram Bauman

3-part workshop

Thursdays, July 11, 18, and 25, 6-8 pm

Overview: Explore opportunities for writing about the environment with plays, cartoons, essays, or other media. Come with your own work to share, or bring your ideas and a willingness to provide feedback!

First Session: How to avoid doom and gloom (or at least make it interesting). Bring your own work or ideas to share, or come to explore Yoram’s experiences as a professional comedian, as a playwright (of the romantic comedy Seize the Initiative!, premiering at the Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival July 26 - Aug 4), and as the co-author of The Cartoon Introduction to Climate Change.

Second Session: Supply and demand. We will think through a key part of environmental economics: supply and demand, with “supply” in this case being any messages or information you’re trying to convey, and “demand” being the target audience and what they’re looking for (which may or may not be the messages or information you’re trying to convey!).

Third Session: To preach or not to preach? Just how much information you can pack into a piece? And is it wise to try to push the limits? We will look at works-in-progress to explore these questions and otherwise think about next steps.

Cost: $20. Registration is required.

Location: CWC, 210 East 400 South #8.
